WAIT - Seminar at Brightland High School, Uganda

IRFF and WAIT Uganda held an empowerment seminar at Brightland High School, Namagona, as part of the Girl Child project on 8th April 2016.

Each school from the area sent 15 students, totalling 250 participants. The seminar focused on some of the main issues that affect young girls in Uganda; dropping out of school, early childhood pregnancies and the spread of HIV/AIDS. The seminar included motivational words from Grace, Miss Kampala Royale 2016-2017, who encouraged the youth not to give up in their careers, to treat life as something precious, and that a ‘healthy body is a healthy mind’.

Madam Evelyn led a session entitled “Dangers of Abortion and Prostitution Amongst Teenage Girls ” and the WAIT leader held a session discussing the topic, “Utilising the Potential / Talent Within You”.

Madam Lydia and the Girl Child team, spoke on issues concerning female hygiene (the menstruation cycle) and on saying no to early pregnancy. This was followed by Brother Eddy an officer in charge, who encouraged the youth not to engage into crime and drug abuse.

The participants were awarded certificates and given sanitary pads.
