Do you enjoy helping people internationally, nationally and/or locally?
If so, then The Tricycle is the shop for you!
It is so named as we support three charities, or 'wheels' each month, one international, one national and one local:
1- The international charity is IRFF-UK, which owns the shop and receives 50% of the profits, thereby being able to more fully support projects in Africa and elsewhere.
2- The National charity is BKPA (British Kidney Patients Association) which helps kidney sufferers throughout the UK, as well as supplying dialysis machines for Great Ormand street Children's Hospital.
3- The third 'wheel' is for local charities and causes which are supported on a rotating basis, a different one each month.
Since opening in August 2012, The Tricycle Shop has supported various local charities: It has helped a young 8 yr old disabled boy to buy a specialised tricycle, so he can get out and about with his dad and experience life as other youngsters do. The manageress of the shop, Michelle Leech, also ran the Great South Run of ten miles in aid of this too, so altogether the contribution came to over £1000 towards buying his tricycle.
The shop also supported 'Home Start', a charity which supports couples with young children who are going through challenges, helping them avoid breaking up or other such tragedies; it helped Southern Domestic Abuse Service, which helps any sufferers from abuse in the home. Also it helped the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and the Citizen's Advice Bureau, amongst many other local charities and good causes.
In 2016 the manageress of The Tricycle Shop, Michelle Leech, visited Uganda to see how the money donated by the shop to IRFF has been used. She saw the many projects and returned feeling very positive, enthusiastic and confident that the money is all being very well spent. Since returning from Uganda she has given various talks on her experience there and has raised more money to send to the different IRFF projects there.
The shop has grown over the years, creating a wonderful community with the many volunteers who are all so committed and welcoming to the many customers and local people who donate to the shop. We, of the Tricycle Shop, would like to extend our gratitude to all who have contributed in any way to the success of the shop in Normandy St, Alton, Hants. Many thanks to all!
The Tricycle Shop is now selling furniture, bicycles and electrical goods, as well as antiques, collectables and general bric a brac and clothes, accessories and toys and games. We welcome donations of all sorts at all times!
