As educators and caretakers, we are responsible for ensuring that the children under our care are provided with a safe and comfortable environment to learn and grow. Unfortunately, the pupils of Destiny Junior School were recently facing a difficult situation that threatened their well-being and education.
You see, the old beddings of the pupils staying at Headteacher Jesca’s house had become worn out and unhygienic. The young pupils had been consistently wetting the beds, which caused the mattresses, bed sheets, and blankets to become old and worn out. Unfortunately, some of these beddings had even developed bed bugs, making them completely unusable. With 45 pupils staying with Teacher Jesca, her home urgently needed new bedding. Due to the lack of clean and suitable bedding, the pupils were forced to share the bedding.
On receipt of the new bedding Jesca wrote: "We are so grateful to report that, thanks to the support of IFF Uganda and IRFF UK, we were able to secure new bedding for all 45 children. The new mattresses, bed sheets and blankets are now providing a clean and comfortable space for the children to sleep and rest, which is crucial for their learning and growth".
Take a look at the photos below and see the children's faces light up with joy as they received their new beddings.
But the work is not done yet, as we always have needs in our school and many of the other communities we serve.
But the work is not done yet, as we always have needs in our school and many of the other communities we serve. For example, Destiny School still needs more child sponsors, £820 to buy schoolroom furniture and £2,600 to finish plastering the remaining naked brick section of the security wall – by August, which we are trying our best to find … Please contact us to learn more about how you can get involved and positively impact these children's lives.
